This project involved replacing an aging builder-grade walkout deck that had deteriorated over time. The client, after conducting extensive research, selected AZEK PVC decking in Coastline—a smart choice for a sunny backyard due to its cool-to-the-touch surface and slip resistance.

Key Features & Design Elements

  • AZEK Coastline PVC Decking
Cool underfoot, anti-slip, and designed to handle high sunlight exposure with ease.
  • Split Staircase with Landing
A landing was added to break up the 14-step descent and redirect the stairs toward the basement walkout—keeping the layout compact and functional.
  • Mixed Railing for Budget & Views
Glass railings were installed on the deck for unobstructed kitchen views, while aluminum picket railings were used on the stairs to balance costs without affecting sightlines.
  • Compact & Efficient Layout
The deck is just large enough for a BBQ, maintaining sunlight for the basement while providing practical access from the kitchen.

Materials Used

Project Outcome

This sleek and practical backyard walkout deck blends style with performance. The AZEK PVC decking ensures long-term durability and low maintenance, while the smart stair configuration improves accessibility and space efficiency. With the added benefit of a 50-year material warranty, this deck will remain functional and beautiful for decades.
